Happy Birthday, Big D!

To my third born, my baby,

 While endings are generally sad, you are such a joy.

You so readily accept your brother's hand-me-downs, the thoroughly used sports equipment, the books that have already been read a million times.  Your baby book holds nothing but a recipe for graham cracker pie crust that somehow made it's way in there, jammed between empty pages. {I'm so sorry!}

You are the baby I so looked forward to... no pressure for a boy or a girl, just sheer joy, elation over the birth of wonderful YOU.  You are the one we relaxed with, who helped us realize that a dog could kiss you and you wouldn't get sick.  You are the one who helped us understand that the world wouldn't end if you went to bed with dirty feet.  And you can already cross the street all by yourself, long before you head to college.  Do you know I watch out the window and hold my breath the whole time?

 You are the one who keeps me on my knees, whose love for life and all things 'boy' delights my heart.  Your curiosity and spunky, goofy zeal for life is balanced by the most compassionate, concerned, tender heart.  You will make a fine veterinarian one day!

Someday, if/when your hair line takes on the shape of Lake Erie {probably not because you have your dad's awesome hair}, and your own kids tower over you, you will still be my baby. You will always be my baby.

Happiest eighth {8th} birthday to you, my sweet boy!!  I love you so very much!

Xo,
Mom

  1. what a precious little guy. I have to tell you that it meant the world to me to get your package in the mail. It's a long story but today was a hard day for me because I have been intensely involved in a retreat ministry and then some painful things happened and this is the first weekend i had to be uninvolved.. anyways.. i was struggling today and got your fall package in the mail.. felt like God gave me a hug.. so I am sending you one back!
