30 Days of Gratitude

I love the month of November.
It speaks to one of my very favorite things:

Gratitude!
Last year I had the privilege of speaking on this topic
and I thought I would break it down into a series of posts for this month.
In my talk I covered the meaning of gratitude,
ways to teach your children gratitude,
and why gratitude
is important.

To kick off 30 Days of Gratitude
in our house
I picked up three simple journals
and three really cool pens.
{my kids LOVE pens!}

After school I sat the kids down
and explained
what the journals are for.
I gave them specific instructions.
They are each to pay attention
throughout their day
and write down all the things they are thankful for.
Big or small,
obvious or subtle.

This goes beyond the
"I'm thankful for my family, friends, and school."
kind of list.
I want them to develop
a keen eye
and a receptive spirit for the ways in
which God pours His love
over us.

I want them to know that
we are extraordinarily wealthy
even though our bank account says
different.

I want them to see
that they have all they need,
but not everything they
want.

I want them to know
that gratitude is not bound by our
circumstances,
but by our
attitudes.

So each night before bed
they will have an extra 10-15 minutes
to reflect
on their day
and jot down
their list of blessings and things
they are thankful for.

I'm anxious to see how this mission will go.
I truly want them to spend the 30 days
prior to the season of gluttony
really thinking about
all
they
are
blessed
with
and putting their hearts and attitudes in
a right framework
for a meaningful Christmas.

Blessings,
{K}

I'm doing this to be legit!
